Relativity

Today, we learnt about Economics of Happiness. For me, it was the second time because I take another Wellbeing module which looks into this.

We learnt that increase in relative income decreases subjective well-being (SWB) . For my non-economist readers, relative income means comparing your income to other people's incomes.

Well, duh. Why is Economics telling me stuff I already know? My other lecturer did say that we know things as it is, but Economics just love adding mathematical equations to prove that fact. Forget about income, if I tell my family that my friend is collaborating with the Warwick Medical School for her dissertation, they would ask me why am I not collaborating with any department.

We always compare ourselves to others, whether we like it or not. But adding on top of the SWB, does this mean that this realisation gives an excuse for people to be envious? Well, not really. It does give light on awareness about this and probably give out strategies so that people stop comparing themselves with other people.

Anyways, I am writing here because I have an assignment, and to avoid writers' block I am talking about this. I am actually stressed about my dissertation. I filtered my dataset in advance because I am actually afraid of my sample size. And my fear turned out to be true. I just hope that my meeting with the supervisor tomorrow will be fruitful and that there will be a solution into this. I am just blessed that my supervisor is super hands-on.

Wish me luck guys. I'm going to leave you with a funny student joke I saw,

"my study method is asking other people to pray for me."
