Divergent appreciation post
7:25 AMSo what is Divergent? If you have been following my tweets, I have been so amped up about Divergent. I'd like to skip the first question and proceed to the simpler questions.
How did I get involved in the Divergent trilogy?
Well, it all started when my buddy Afrina was telling me how cool Divergent is. She told me that it was like The Hunger Games and I'm like "ngeeeh". Then, my friend Durrah was reading Insurgent which apparently is the second book of Divergent. So I asked her "do they have romantic scenes there?" (and by that, I don't mean the weird three letter word scenes, I mean the cute couple-y scenes) (and yes, I'm a hopeless romantic). And she said "oh adalah.. apparently this girl is linked to her instructor named Four." And I was like "okay that's weird because teacher-student relationship is def illegal and it sounds so Ezria (Those who watch PLL will understand)" and second thought was "gurl why is his name Four?" So I wanted to know more and I couldn't read the second book obviously so I asked Abigail (who has Afrina's Divergent book) so that I could just read a little bit of the book and return it to her by the end of school.
But no.
I kept reading and I couldn't stop. I finished reading it within 3 hours that's how cool it is. Even when teacher was teaching us I secretly read it. It was highly dangerous to not pay attention in class as PMR was in 2 more weeks at that time. But I couldn't stop, it's like a drug and I need to go for rehab after reading it. So I asked Abigail if I could give it to her the next day and she let me and that was one of the happiest moment of my life. Even after I finished it, I reread the book and it just went into my heart. So anyway, I reread it a couple of times until I almost skipped tuition.
The next day I read Insurgent, the second book. I speed-read the book as I was not supposed to be distracted by it.
A month later, I went to KLCC. I saw the book at Kinokuniya. I screamed. Afrina bought the book. I had the privilege to be the first to read, even she didn't read it yet due to my anticipation. Thank you, Afrina. You definitely belong in the Abnegation faction.
And I finished reading the book. I was so upset I just cursed the book, then I cried. Then I just, I was just, speechless. What is air?
So, that's how I'm involved in this Divergent fandom.
Okay, so really, what is Divergent?
The story is about Tris, who turned 16, she needs to make a choice regarding her life. Like what character you want to be. In this world, you can't be everything. You have to choose either to be in Abnegation (selfless), Dauntless (brave), Erudite (intelligent), Candor (honest) and Amity (peaceful). Tris and her brother Caleb were originally from Abnegation. During the Choosing Day, Tris chose Dauntless while Caleb chose Erudite. And so, stuff happens and you HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK TO KNOW MORE BECAUSE IF I GO ANY LONGER I MIGHT SPOIL IT FOR YOU AND I'LL CRY FOR NO SPECIFIC REASON. Oh, what I can tell you is that Tris is Divergent, a condition where she cannot be controlled. In this world, they use a lot of simulation like fear landscape and all so in this case she knows that the simulation is, a simulation. Like other people just turn to robots but she realizes what's going on.
Here's the gorgeous covers of the trilogy I need this version!!
What's so good about Divergent?
Divergent portrays bravery. Tris, the main character, is just a small person. Nothing really great about her. Like Four said.
"I saw her, but I didn’t see her; no one saw her the way she truly was until she jumped."But as the story goes, it has shown sacrifice and love between family and friends. I like how Tris and Four are together. Both of them are not cheesy. They don't express themselves in the way other romance novels do, but they belong with each other.
Tris once said, "I think you're still the only person sharp enough to sharpen someone like me."
So it's very different from other relationships I've read.
The sacrifices in this novel is great, everything just falls back into pieces.
And the action. God, it's amazing. From the knife throwing scene to the jumping off the train and building scene. Wow, kudos to Veronica Roth for the wonderful plot.
Now, I just can't wait for the Divergent movie to premiere.
I was quite skeptical about the cast at first. Especially Four. I expected him to be more attractive I guess. But then if you look at it at a different perspective, Theo James is exactly the right person to be Four. I hope the movie exceeds my expectation.
Then, I saw Caleb Prior. His real name is Ansel Elgort. I got to know that he's playing Augustus Waters, every girl's dream boyfriend in The Fault In Our Stars. I started following him on Twitter and Instagram (in other words stalking him) And boy was he cute.
How can you not be charmed by his adorable smile?
My word of advice is, read Divergent. Please, please avoid spoilers to make sure you enjoy the journey of Divergent. (Okay I hope that makes sense so good night!)
