The Trials and Tribulations in Pursuit of Going for What I Want

3:51 AM

Getting what you want is never easy, right?
You need to work hard for it, go through miles of headwinds until you reach the stars.

But as you climb to the galaxy of the unknown,
You tend to ask yourself,
Is this even worthwhile?
Why am I doing this?
What if all this effort is for nothing?

So sometimes you take a pit stop at the moon,
Possibly burning some marshmallows on the hypothetical woodfire,
Affirming yourself that,
Even when you don’t get what you want,
You still have a good life.
And the fact that you’re working so hard,
Shows that this fire in you will never dim,
So even when things crumble,
You got your own back.

I guess that’s how I felt as I go for what I want.
People screaming at me saying,
“What have you got to lose? What other signs from God are you looking for?”
And that’s the fuel I need to kickstart my newfound interest

And of course,
The wait after that is excruciating,
Oftentimes anxiety-inducing.
Almost giving up,
Saying, “ok I think this is it. I’ll let go.”

But for once,
I see your name popped up,
and perhaps I didn’t need to work that hard,
I just needed to give you space.

And really,
Finally being able to see you,
Is like finally finding that pot ‘o gold,
After enduring the rain and thunderstorms

You are such a beacon of light,
While I try to beam light on others,
Oftentimes people don’t do the same,
Every second spent with you feels like seeing the sunrise,
And suddenly all that anxiety washed away,
I can now breathe easy,
Because I finally found my own sunshine.

That’s when I realised,
This is what it means when people say,
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
I hope you’re the sunrise I’ve been looking for,
After years of being in the night.
