Giving Back

I have always loved being a teacher. I love sharing my knowledge with others. I am a firm believer of what you give, you get back even more. Sure, I do not own any bragging rights, but when you are given responsibilities, of course you would do it in sincerity. As a friend, I believe that I want to succeed along with my friends as well. Imagine climbing the highest peak of the mountain, alone, what's the fun in that?
Every mentee has their own story. Their mission last year was to obtain the best grade they will ever have to achieve. Alhamdulillah they did it.
From left to bottom; Muhammad Nur Zikri (TK) and Shah Nurul Atikah who scored A and A+ for Accounts respectively, Faiznur who scored 8As and Maryam who got A+ for Additional Mathematics.
If anyone knew TK personally, they know how hard life was for him in TGB. They would know how hard it is for him to score. Teachers almost gave up teaching him and there were times when he was studying outside school grounds. Yet, the night before Accounts, he went to seek for help and we studied until prep ends. Alhamdulillah, whatever we studied the day before came out and he scored an A for Accounts.
I was secretly assigned by Puan Rosni to help Shah with accounts, since we're in the same block. It was super random, I came to their mini revision lesson because I needed major help in accounts and I was given that heavy task. "Tolonglah Qurratuain, kalau dia dapat A, awak terus datang jumpa saya sebab saya ada hadiah untuk awak kalau awak boleh bantu dia dapatkan A." She used to be the girl with the lowest Accounts grade, but hey, she never stopped improving and ever-willing to come to my room and have late-night classes. The few nights before Accounts, I was so worried for her and checked up on her every day to ask whether she had studied or not. I was so scared to the fact that I didn't even ask for her Accounts grade after SPM. Until the day after the SPM ceremony, I got a WhatsApp message from her telling me that she got an A+ for accounts. I was beyond happy. In fact, this wonderful news was the reason why I decided to write a blog post about this. SERIOUSLY, IT'S AN A+ NOT EVEN AN A. THIS WAS IN FACT A GREATER NEWS THAT MY OWN SPM GRADES. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah for everything.
Faiznur was my deskmate in the second semester in Form Five. She may look like that tough girl, but deep inside, no one knew. But I admired her because she said that every time she felt sad, she would run to the surau and take her ablution to perform her salaah, she never once gave up on Allah SWT. I didn't do much, mostly just motivated her and told her to keep going. She got herself major amounts of As and I couldn't be happier.
Lastly, my Add Math mentees. Maryam Jamilah was one of them. I was so happy when I saw her SPM slip and her getting A+ for Add Math. Alongside Hasmaliyana and Arissa. I feel at ease.
But I know all these students and several others, it wasn't because of my help that they succeeded, it was entirely their hard work. I only helped as much as I could.
I guess this is what it feels like being a teacher. When your students' results are as ever-satisfying, you will feel like you have done something good in life. That is why being a teacher is definitely rewarding and fulfilling.
It is always good to give back, and when you know you are capable of something, use the advantage to help those in need. You will never once regret it once you see the rewarding outcome.
